Music is a celebration of life, with all its joys and sorrows. New music can be commissioned to celebrate a wedding, welcome a baby, remember a life, mark a milestone, or honour someone's contribution to an organization or group. Music is also commissioned simply to bring new beauty to the world. It is a unique and personal gift to an individual, a family, a community, or to the planet at large.
The cost of a new music commission varies according to the size of the group or ensemble intended to perform it, as well as the length of the work. Depending on the number of parts, a minute of music can take me from 5-25 hours to complete, from creating the initial themes and motives to working through the drafts, scoring it out, and editing it to be ready for rehearsal and just right for the client. My fees are negotiable.

What about a commissioning consortium?
A commissioning consortium is when a group pools their fiscal resources to commission a new piece. The group may be made up of individuals, ensembles, or schools. Each participant receives their own premiere of the work and can communicate directly with the composer throughout the process. They reap the benefits of commissioning and performing a new piece of music, but at a fraction of the cost of commissioning independently. I aim to keep my consortium fees in the range of $250-$1000 per participating group, depending on the scope of the piece.

If you are interested in forming a consortium in order to commission my work, please let me know. I can also help you find other commissioning partners.
And finally, hats off to you for contemplating the idea of bringing more art into the world via commissioning music. Please email me if you would like to discuss it further.
